How does the packing list maker work?

You build a checklist of items, each tagged with a category and a quantity. As you tick items off, a progress bar shows the share of items already packed. Everything is held in your browser and saved automatically, so the list is still there when you come back.

What categories can I organise items into?

Items are grouped into six clear categories — clothes, toiletries, documents, electronics, health and meds, and miscellaneous. Each item can be moved between categories at any time using the dropdown next to it.

Can I start from a template instead of an empty list?

Yes. There are four ready-made templates — weekend city break, beach holiday, business trip and camping or hiking. Use replaces your current list with the template; Merge adds only the template items you do not already have, so you can combine several.

How do I save or share my packing list?

Use Copy checklist to put a plain-text version on your clipboard, Export .txt to download a readable file, or Export JSON to download a structured copy. The JSON file can be re-imported later to restore the exact list, including which items were already packed.

Is my packing list private?

Completely. The tool is 100 percent client-side — nothing is uploaded to a server. Your list lives only in this browser via local storage, and exported files are generated on your device.

Will my list still be there next time I open the page?

Yes, as long as you use the same browser and have not cleared its storage. The list auto-saves after every change. For a permanent backup, export it as JSON and re-import it whenever you need it.

How it works

Start by naming your trip and entering the number of days and travellers — handy context that also rides along when you export. Then choose how to fill the list. Four templates cover the most common trips: a weekend city break, a beach holiday, a business trip, and a camping or hiking weekend. Pressing Use loads a template fresh; Merge folds a template into what you already have without creating duplicates, which is perfect for combining, say, a business trip with a weekend add-on.

Every item carries a quantity and one of six categories — clothes, toiletries, documents, electronics, health and meds, and miscellaneous. The checklist groups items under colour-coded category headers, each showing its own packed count, so a glance tells you which section still needs attention. Tick the checkbox beside an item and it is marked packed, struck through, and counted toward the overall percentage. Filter the view to show only what is left to pack or only what is already packed, hide empty categories to declutter, or check and uncheck everything in one tap. Each change saves to your browser automatically, so the list survives a refresh, a closed tab, or coming back the next day.

Example

Packing for a five-day beach holiday for two people: load the beach template, then bump swimwear to a quantity of four and add “snorkel set” under miscellaneous. As you pack, you tick off sunscreen, passports and chargers; the progress bar climbs to 78% and the Documents header still reads 2/3, instantly telling you the travel insurance printout is the one thing missing.
