This free converter changes gigabytes (GB) into megabytes (MB) and back again, updating live as you type. It’s useful for sizing files, storage drives, downloads, and data caps in consistent units.
How it works
Using decimal (SI) digital units — the convention storage vendors and most file managers use — one gigabyte equals one thousand megabytes. The converter applies that single factor:
MB = GB × 1000 (and GB = MB ÷ 1000)
Type in the GB field to multiply, or the MB field to divide. Note the binary alternative: 1 gibibyte (GiB) = 1024 mebibytes (MiB). This tool uses the decimal 1000 convention, not 1024.
Example
You have a 64 GB memory card and want the figure in megabytes:
64 × 1000 = 64,000 MB
So a 64 GB card is sixty-four thousand megabytes in decimal units.
| Gigabytes (GB) | Megabytes (MB) |
|---|---|
| 1 GB | 1000 MB |
| 100 GB | 100000 MB |
| 500 GB | 500000 MB |
| 1000 GB | 1000000 MB |
