This free converter changes gigabytes (GB) into terabytes (TB) and back again, updating live as you type. It’s useful for sizing hard drives, NAS arrays, backups, and cloud storage plans in consistent units.
How it works
Using decimal (SI) digital units — the convention storage vendors use — one terabyte equals one thousand gigabytes, so one gigabyte is 0.001 TB. The converter applies that single factor:
TB = GB × 0.001 (and GB = TB × 1000)
Type in the GB field to scale down, or the TB field to scale up. Note the binary alternative: 1 tebibyte (TiB) = 1024 gibibytes (GiB). This tool uses the decimal 1000 convention, not 1024.
Example
You bought a 2000 GB SSD and want the figure in terabytes:
2000 × 0.001 = 2 TB
So a 2000 GB drive is 2 terabytes in decimal units.
| Gigabytes (GB) | Terabytes (TB) |
|---|---|
| 1 GB | 0.001 TB |
| 100 GB | 0.1 TB |
| 500 GB | 0.5 TB |
| 1000 GB | 1 TB |
