Kilobytes to Megabytes Converter
This free digital storage converter changes Kilobytes (KB) into Megabytes (MB) and back again. Kilobytes describe small files like documents and icons, while megabytes describe photos, songs and app downloads. The tool helps when a service quotes a limit in one unit but your file is measured in the other.
How it works
The converter applies the SI decimal definition: 1 KB = 0.001 MB (equivalently, 1 MB = 1000 KB). Going from kilobytes to megabytes divides by 1000; the reverse multiplies by 1000. Both input fields are bound together, so changing either recalculates the other instantly. This decimal convention differs from the binary mebibyte (1 MiB = 1024 KiB) shown by some file managers.
Example
To convert 2500 KB to megabytes, divide by 1000:
2500 ÷ 1000 = 2.5 MB
So a 2500 KB email attachment is 2.5 MB — comfortably under a typical 25 MB attachment limit.
| Kilobytes (KB) | Megabytes (MB) |
|---|---|
| 1 KB | 0.001 MB |
| 100 KB | 0.1 MB |
| 500 KB | 0.5 MB |
| 1000 KB | 1 MB |
