This tool splits the cost of a shared group gift evenly across contributors — down to the last cent — so the collected amounts always add up to the exact total. It’s ideal for office collections, joint birthday presents, and any pooled purchase, with an optional organiser top-up.
How it works
Enter the gift total and the number of contributors. The tool divides the amount evenly, but because money rounds to two decimal places a clean split is rare. To avoid losing or gaining cents, it gives most people the rounded-down share and adds the leftover cents one at a time to the first few contributors. The shares therefore total the exact gift cost.
If you add an organiser top-up, that amount is subtracted from the total first, then the remainder is split among everyone — so the organiser pays their normal share plus the top-up.
Example
A $100 gift split among 3 people:
- $100 ÷ 3 = $33.333…, rounded down to $33.33 each.
- 3 × $33.33 = $99.99, leaving 1 cent.
- That cent is added to one person.
| Person | Pays |
|---|---|
| Person 1 | $33.34 |
| Person 2 | $33.33 |
| Person 3 | $33.33 |
| Total | $100.00 |
