This tool shows a live countdown to your next birthday — the exact days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining until the day. Enter your date of birth and the timer ticks down in real time from your device clock. The summary shows the calendar date of your next birthday and the age you will turn. When the birthday passes, the countdown automatically resets to the following year.
How it works
The tool reads the day and month from your date of birth and constructs a target moment at midnight at the start of that day, in your local time zone. If that point has already passed this year — your birthday was earlier in the calendar year than today — the target rolls forward to next year’s date. Every second it takes the difference between the current time and the target and breaks it into days, hours, minutes, and seconds. The age you will turn is calculated from the birth year and the upcoming birthday year.
A note on 29 February birthdays
If you were born on 29 February, the target date in non-leap years is resolved by the browser’s built-in date handling. Most implementations roll 29 February forward to 1 March in non-leap years, so the countdown still resolves to a valid upcoming date even when the calendar cannot produce 29 February that year.
Example
If today is 1 March and your birthday is 20 March, the countdown displays 19 days, plus the hours, minutes, and seconds until midnight on the 20th. As the 20th passes into the early hours, the timer clicks over to 0 and then immediately resets to 364 days (or 365 in a leap year) to count toward next year’s birthday. The age shown updates to reflect the new year’s birthday.
Uses beyond fun
A birthday countdown is more useful than it sounds for planning:
- Know how many days remain to organise a surprise, book a venue, or arrange a trip.
- Show the counter on a birthday person’s screen to build anticipation in the days before.
- Quickly check whether the upcoming birthday falls on a weekday or weekend so you can plan accordingly.
- For children’s birthdays, put the countdown where they can see it — the transparency of a ticking clock satisfies curiosity far better than a vague “about two weeks.”
Age you will turn
The summary shows not just the date but the age you will reach on that birthday. This is calculated by taking the upcoming birthday year and subtracting your birth year. It is a useful sanity check when filling out forms or applications that ask “how old will you be on [date]?” — simply set the target to that date and read the age.
Your date of birth is never uploaded — everything runs in your browser using your device’s local clock.
