Texas Sales Tax Calculator 2025
Texas levies a statewide base sales tax rate of 6.25% as of 2025. This calculator adds tax to a pre-tax price or works in reverse to pull tax out of an inclusive total — useful for shoppers, sellers quoting prices, and anyone reconciling Texas receipts.
How it works
The tool applies a percentage in either direction:
Add tax: total = price × (1 + rate/100), tax = price × rate/100
Remove tax: price = total ÷ (1 + rate/100), tax = total − price
The rate field defaults to the 6.25% Texas state base rate and is editable — local taxing units (cities, counties, transit and special districts) can add up to 2%, so set the field to your area’s combined rate (up to 8.25%) for a local figure. Everything runs locally with no data transmitted.
Example
On a $100 pre-tax purchase at the 6.25% state rate: tax = 100 × 0.0625 = $6.25, so the total is $106.25. Reversing a $106.25 inclusive total gives 106.25 ÷ 1.0625 = $100.00 pre-tax.
| Pre-tax price | Tax at 6.25% | Total |
|---|---|---|
| $20 | $1.25 | $21.25 |
| $50 | $3.13 | $53.13 |
| $100 | $6.25 | $106.25 |
Note: combined local rates can reach 8.25%. Verify your local rate before relying on the state-only figure.
