Pennsylvania workers earning minimum wage are paid $7.25 per hour — the same rate as the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) floor. Unlike many other US states that have enacted higher state minimums, the Pennsylvania General Assembly has kept its rate anchored to the federal level since 2009 under the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act (43 P.S. §§333.101–333.115). This calculator converts that hourly rate — or any rate you choose — into exact weekly, monthly and annual gross pay figures, with full overtime calculated at 1.5x for every hour beyond 40 in the workweek.
How the calculator works
Regular pay is straightforward: hours up to 40 × hourly rate. Once you enter more than 40 hours per week, the calculator splits the workweek automatically:
Regular pay = min(hours, 40) × wage
Overtime pay = max(0, hours − 40) × wage × 1.5
Weekly gross = regular pay + overtime pay
Monthly gross is derived using the exact calendar average:
Monthly gross = weekly gross × 52 ÷ 12
Annual gross uses the full year:
Annual gross = weekly gross × 52
Worked example — Pennsylvania minimum wage, standard week
A full-time Pennsylvania worker earning the current state minimum of $7.25/hr working exactly 40 hours per week earns:
- Regular pay: 40h × $7.25 = $290.00/week
- Overtime: none
- Monthly gross: $290.00 × 52 ÷ 12 = $1,256.67/month
- Annual gross: $290.00 × 52 = $15,080.00/year
That annual figure is $15,080 — roughly 26% below the 2025 federal poverty guideline for a household of two ($20,440), which illustrates the ongoing debate in the Commonwealth over raising the minimum wage.
Worked example — with overtime
The same worker picks up an extra shift and logs 45 hours in a week:
- Regular pay: 40h × $7.25 = $290.00
- Overtime pay: 5h × ($7.25 × 1.5) = 5h × $10.875 = $54.38
- Weekly gross: $290.00 + $54.38 = $344.38
- Monthly gross: $344.38 × 52 ÷ 12 = $1,492.31
- Annual gross: $344.38 × 52 = $17,907.50
Five hours of overtime per week adds roughly $2,827/year to gross pay at minimum wage.
Pennsylvania vs the federal minimum wage
Because Pennsylvania’s $7.25/hr mirrors the federal rate, workers in the Commonwealth receive no premium above what the FLSA already guarantees. The comparison panel in this calculator shows that difference is $0 at the current state minimum — but try entering any rate above $7.25 and it will show exactly how much more you earn annually than the federal floor.
| Scenario | Hourly | Weekly | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PA min, 35h/wk (part-time) | $7.25 | $253.75 | $1,099.58 | $13,195 |
| PA min, 40h/wk | $7.25 | $290.00 | $1,256.67 | $15,080 |
| PA min, 45h/wk (5h OT) | $7.25 | $344.38 | $1,492.31 | $17,908 |
| $12.00/hr, 40h/wk | $12.00 | $480.00 | $2,080.00 | $24,960 |
| $15.00/hr, 40h/wk | $15.00 | $600.00 | $2,600.00 | $31,200 |
All figures are gross — before federal income tax, Social Security (6.2%), Medicare (1.45%) and Pennsylvania’s flat 3.07% state income tax.
