This free converter turns litres (L) into millilitres (mL) and back, useful for cooking, dosing medicine, lab work and reading product labels. Because both are metric units of volume, the conversion is exact and easy.
How it works
The millilitre is defined as one thousandth of a litre, so the conversion is a simple factor of 1000:
millilitres = litres × 1000
The reverse direction divides by 1000 (litres = millilitres ÷ 1000). One millilitre also equals exactly one cubic centimetre (cm³). The tool computes the result as you type in either field, so it works in both directions at once.
Example
To convert 2.5 litres to millilitres:
2.5 × 1000 = 2,500 mL
Common values for quick reference:
| Litres (L) | Millilitres (mL) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 L | 500 mL |
| 1 L | 1000 mL |
| 5 L | 5000 mL |
| 100 L | 100000 mL |
