Indiana Sales Tax Calculator 2025
Indiana charges a flat statewide sales tax rate of 7% as of 2025. Because Indiana has no local sales taxes, this calculator gives the true total tax for any purchase in the state, making it simple for shoppers and businesses to add or remove tax from a price.
How it works
The calculator runs two modes. In Add mode your figure is the pre-tax price:
tax = amount × (rate / 100) and total = amount + tax. In Remove mode your
figure is the tax-inclusive total: net = amount / (1 + rate / 100), so the tax
portion is amount − net. The rate defaults to Indiana’s 7% and is editable.
| Mode | Formula | Returns |
|---|---|---|
| Add tax | total = amount × 1.07 | pre-tax, tax, total |
| Remove tax | net = total / 1.07 | pre-tax, tax, total |
Example
A $100 pre-tax item at 7%:
- Tax = 100 × 0.07 = $7.00
- Total = 100 + 7 = $107.00
In Remove mode, a $107.00 total divides by 1.07 to recover the $100.00 net price and $7.00 of tax.
Important: Indiana has a flat 7% statewide rate with no local sales taxes. Groceries and prescription drugs are exempt.
