HeyGen video cost calculator
Estimate what an AI avatar video will cost in credits before you render it. Enter your script’s word count, choose a resolution, set how many videos you need, and see the estimated credit usage mapped against HeyGen’s plan tiers.
How HeyGen billing works
HeyGen meters video generation by spoken minute, deducted from a monthly credit allowance that depends on your plan. The two levers that drive cost are length and resolution:
minutes = ceil(word_count / 140)
credits = minutes × resolution_multiplier × number_of_videos
Narration runs at roughly 140 words per minute, so a 700-word script is about five minutes of finished video. Higher resolution (1080p) generally consumes more credits per minute than 720p, and most plans bill any partial minute as a full minute — which is why short clips can feel surprisingly expensive.
Tips to stretch your credits
- Batch tightly: render only final scripts; re-renders burn fresh credits.
- Trim filler: cutting 15% of words can drop you below a minute boundary.
- Default to 720p for social drafts and reserve 1080p for hero videos.
- Match your tier to volume — the higher tiers lower effective cost per minute once you exceed a few videos a month.
