Florida Sales Tax Calculator 2025
Florida levies a statewide sales tax of 6% on most retail purchases, on top of which individual counties may add a discretionary surtax. This calculator adds the 6% state tax to a pre-tax price, or removes it from a tax-inclusive total, so shoppers and sellers can check a receipt or set a price in seconds.
How it works
In Add Sales Tax mode the tool multiplies your pre-tax price by (1 + rate/100) — at the default 6% that is × 1.06 — and the tax portion is price × 0.06. In Remove Sales Tax mode it divides the tax-inclusive total by 1.06 to recover the pre-tax price, then takes the difference as the tax. The rate field defaults to Florida’s 6% base but can be changed to your county’s combined rate. All calculations run in your browser; no amounts or personal data are transmitted.
Example
On a $100 pre-tax item at the 6% state rate:
- Sales tax = 100 × 0.06 = $6.00
- Total = 100 + 6 = $106.00
To work backwards, a $106.00 total ÷ 1.06 = $100.00 pre-tax, with $6.00 of sales tax inside it.
| Combined rate | Tax on $100 | Total |
|---|---|---|
| 6.0% (state only) | $6.00 | $106.00 |
| 6.5% | $6.50 | $106.50 |
| 7.0% | $7.00 | $107.00 |
| 7.5% | $7.50 | $107.50 |
Note: Florida’s state rate is 6%. Most counties add a discretionary surtax of 0.5–1.5%, bringing combined rates up to about 7.5% in some areas, and groceries and prescription medicines are generally exempt.
