Feet to Inches Converter
Both feet and inches are imperial units of length used widely in the US and UK for heights, room dimensions, furniture and DIY measurements. This free converter changes feet (ft) into inches (in) and back again, so you can switch between the two units a building plan, height chart or shopping spec might use.
How it works
The relationship is exact and defined by the imperial system: 1 foot = 12 inches. To convert feet to inches the tool multiplies by 12; to convert inches back to feet it divides by 12. Type a value in either field and the other updates instantly, in both directions.
Example
To convert 5 ft to inches: 5 × 12 = 60 inches. For a height written as 5 ft 9 in, convert the feet first (5 × 12 = 60) and add the loose inches: 60 + 9 = 69 inches total.
| Feet (ft) | Inches (in) |
|---|---|
| 1 ft | 12 in |
| 3 ft | 36 in |
| 5 ft | 60 in |
| 6 ft | 72 in |
| 10 ft | 120 in |
