Anime characters carry names that sound distinctly Japanese while often feeling stylised. This generator gives you two modes: authentic curated full names, and invented names built from Japanese-style syllables for one-of-a-kind characters.
How it works
Curated mode keeps gendered pools of real Japanese given names plus a shared surname pool, shuffles each with an unbiased Fisher-Yates pass, and joins one of each. Syllable mode assembles given names from a set of Japanese-style mora (open consonant-vowel units such as ka, ru, mi, to) into two or three syllables, then attaches a curated surname so the result still reads as a believable full name.
Tips and example
- For a grounded slice-of-life cast, use curated mode: Haruka Saito.
- For a flashy battle-shonen lead, syllable mode shines: Ryuto Kurosawa.
- Regenerate freely and combine a syllable-built given name with a surname you like for a custom feel.
