CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and percentages are two ways of reporting the same academic performance, and many applications — university admissions, scholarships and jobs — ask for one when your transcript shows the other. This converter turns a CGPA into a percentage using the exact method your institution requires, so the figure you submit matches what is expected.

How it works

There is no single universal formula — each board sets its own — so the tool offers three methods:

  • CBSE factor method: percentage = CGPA × 9.5. The 9.5 is an empirical factor CBSE published.
  • VTU formula: percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, used by Visvesvaraya Technological University.
  • Custom multiplier: enter any factor your institution specifies, and the tool multiplies your CGPA by it.

Pick the correct method for your board or university before relying on the number, because admissions offices and employers expect that specific conversion.

Example

A CGPA of 8.5:

MethodCalculationPercentage
CBSE (× 9.5)8.5 × 9.580.75%
VTU(8.5 − 0.75) × 1077.5%
Custom (× 10)8.5 × 1085%

The same CGPA gives different percentages depending on the rule, which is why choosing the right method matters. Everything runs in your browser — your grades never leave your device.
