Zalgo text generator

Turn ordinary text into glitchy, corrupted Zalgo — the dripping, “cursed” style where letters spill marks above and below the line. It is popular for spooky usernames, edgy social-media posts, creepypasta and meme captions anywhere Unicode is supported.

How it works

Zalgo is built entirely from real Unicode combining diacritical marks — the accents and squiggles normally used to add an umlaut or a cedilla. Instead of one, the generator stacks many onto each base character. It draws from three pools of marks — those that render above the line, through the middle, and below — and for each visible character appends a random count from each enabled pool:

  • Above and below: up to the intensity cap (mini 3, normal 8, maxi 20).
  • Middle: up to about a third of that cap.

Spaces and line breaks are skipped, so words stay separated. The base letters are never replaced, so the underlying text remains intact beneath the marks. Regenerate re-rolls the random arrangement.

Example

The word hi at normal intensity might become something like h̵̗̀ḭ̢̈͝ — the h and i are unchanged, but several combining marks now hang above and below each. Toggle off “Marks below” and the glitch only rises upward; switch to maxi and the stacks grow much taller.

Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Note some apps strip or limit combining marks, so very high intensity may render less dramatically on certain platforms.
