Translation prompt builder

“Translate this to Spanish” leaves too much to chance. Professional results need a precise target dialect, the domain so terminology is accurate, a glossary of locked translations, a consistent formality register, and a rule for untranslatable terms. This builder bundles all of that into one prompt, so an LLM behaves like a careful human translator rather than a literal dictionary.

How it works

You set the source and target languages, optionally name the domain and supply a glossary of term = translation pairs, then choose a formality register and an untranslatable-term policy. The tool assembles a prompt that instructs the model to translate meaning rather than words, preserve formatting and placeholders, apply the glossary exactly, and return only the translation. The result is repeatable across an entire document set.

Tips and notes

  • Be specific with dialects. Brazilian vs European Portuguese, or Mexican vs Castilian Spanish, are meaningfully different targets.
  • Lock your glossary. For software and brands, a glossary prevents the same term being translated three different ways across one document.
  • Preserve placeholders. The prompt tells the model to keep markup and variables like {name} intact — verify this on your first batch.
  • Match register to context. Legal and medical text usually wants the formal register; chat UI and marketing often want conversational.
