Tonnes to Kilograms Converter
This free mass converter changes metric tonnes (t) into kilograms (kg) and back again. It is handy for shipping and freight weights, construction materials, and any figure quoted in tonnes that you need in kilograms.
How it works
The metric tonne is defined as exactly 1000 kilograms, so the conversion is a single exact factor:
kg = t × 1000

Where tonne-to-kilogram conversion comes up
Shipping and logistics. Freight carriers quote cargo weight in tonnes for container loads and kilometric capacity. Bill of lading figures are often in metric tonnes; internal warehouse systems may track individual pallet weights in kilograms. Converting between the two is a daily task for logistics coordinators.
Construction and civil engineering. Structural load calculations use kilonewtons (which depend on kilograms), while material orders — steel beams, ready-mix concrete, aggregate — are typically quoted in tonnes. Converting the order quantity to kilograms before feeding it into a structural model avoids unit errors.
Agriculture and commodities. Grain yields, fertilizer application rates, and harvest totals are reported in tonnes at a macro level, but individual batch weights on farm scales are in kilograms. Comparing field records to market contracts often requires converting one way or the other.
Mining and quarrying. Production output in mines is recorded in tonnes, while blasting charge calculations, ore grade assays, and crusher feed rates are worked in kilograms per tonne of rock — requiring the conversion to reconcile different reporting systems.
