Switzerland charges Mehrwertsteuer (MWST), known as TVA in French and IVA in Italian, at a standard rate of 8.1% as of 2025 — raised from 7.7% on 1 January 2024. A reduced rate of 2.6% and a special accommodation rate of 3.8% also apply. This calculator adds MWST to a net price or extracts it from a gross price, with the full net, tax, and gross breakdown.
How it works
It is a single multiply or divide based on the chosen rate:
- Add MWST: gross = net × (1 + rate). The MWST is net × rate.
- Remove MWST: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate). The MWST inside the price is gross − net.
At the standard rate the multiplier is 1.081; switch to 2.6% (1.026) or 3.8% (1.038) for reduced and special-rate items.
Example
| Mode | Input | Net | MWST (8.1%) | Gross |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Add | 1000 net | 1000.00 | 81.00 | 1081.00 |
| Remove | 1081 gross | 1000.00 | 81.00 | 1081.00 |
To remove MWST from 1081 CHF: 1081 ÷ 1.081 = 1000 net, leaving 81 of MWST.
| Rate | Applies to |
