Stability AI API credit calculator
Stability AI’s image API bills in credits, where one credit equals one US cent. Different models burn credits at very different rates — Stable Image Ultra is premium, Core is cheap, and SDXL is priced by sampling steps — so a batch of a few thousand images can range from a few dollars to a few hundred. This calculator turns your model, step count, and image volume into a credit total and its dollar equivalent.
How it works
Each model carries a per-image credit cost. For flat-rate models (Ultra, Core, SD3.5 Large / Medium), the tool multiplies that fixed cost by your image count. For SDXL, which is step-priced, it scales the baseline 50-step cost linearly by your chosen step count, then multiplies by volume. The final figure is shown in both credits and USD at the standard $0.01-per-credit rate, plus a per-image breakdown so you can compare models at a glance.
Tips for controlling cost
- Match model to need. Use Core for drafts and bulk work; reserve Ultra for hero shots where quality justifies the higher per-image credit cost.
- Trim SDXL steps. Quality plateaus well before 50 steps for many prompts — dropping to 30 steps cuts the per-image cost proportionally.
- Buy credits in bundles. Stability sells prepaid credit packs; estimating the batch first avoids over- or under-buying.
- Confirm against the dashboard. Model pricing shifts over time, so treat this as a planning estimate and verify current rates in your Stability account.
