Screen time cost calculator
Small daily habits add up. This calculator turns your average daily screen time into weekly and yearly hours, the equivalent number of full days, and an opportunity cost based on what an hour of your time is worth. It is a quick reality check for anyone trying to cut back on their phone or screen use.
How it works
It scales your daily hours across longer periods and converts the yearly total into 24-hour days:
weekly hours = daily × 7 yearly hours = daily × 365 equivalent full days = yearly hours ÷ 24
The opportunity cost multiplies the hours by the value you place on an hour of your time. It is not money you spend, but an estimate of what that time could be worth elsewhere:
yearly cost = daily hours × 365 × hourly value
Example
Three hours a day, valued at £15 an hour:
| Period | Hours | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Per day | 3 | £45 |
| Per week | 21 | £315 |
| Per year | 1,095 | £16,425 |
That 1,095 hours is about 45 full days a year. Seeing the totals laid out makes it easier to decide whether the time is well spent. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
