Saudi take-home: no income tax, GOSI social-insurance deductions

Ad placeholder (leaderboard)

Saudi Arabia is one of the few major economies with no personal income tax on salaries. For both residents and expats, take-home pay equals gross pay minus any GOSI (General Organisation for Social Insurance) employee contribution. This free calculator makes that explicit: it shows that the income-tax line is zero and then applies the correct social-insurance deduction for your status.

How it works

There is no income-tax bracket to apply. The only payroll deduction is GOSI, and the rate depends on whether you are an expat or a Saudi national:

  • Expats: no pension (Annuities) or unemployment (SANED) contribution applies to the employee. Only the 2% occupational-hazards branch is charged, and the employer pays it. So a typical expat employee deduction is 0%, and net pay equals gross pay. You can override the employee rate to match a specific contract.
  • Saudi nationals: the employee contributes roughly 9.75% (9% Annuities pension plus 0.75% SANED), and the employer contributes roughly 11.75%, for a combined social-insurance load near 21.5% of salary.

The calculator computes net = gross - (gross x employeeGosiRate) and shows the employer-side contribution separately so you can see the full cost of employment.

Example

An expat on SAR 20,000 per month pays no income tax and, by default, no employee GOSI, so net pay is the full SAR 20,000. A Saudi national on the same salary pays about SAR 1,950 employee GOSI (9.75%), taking home roughly SAR 18,050, while the employer adds about SAR 2,350 on top.

Tips and notes

  • GOSI is calculated on the contributory wage (basic salary plus housing allowance, subject to a cap), not necessarily total package. Use your contributory wage for the most accurate figure.
  • Rates and the contributory-wage cap are set by GOSI and change periodically; confirm the current values for payroll filings.
  • This tool models social insurance only. It does not include any company-specific deductions. Everything runs locally in your browser.
