Parking is one of San Diego’s hidden costs, and rates vary sharply by district. This estimator uses tiered local rates — hourly and a typical ~$150 monthly garage — to project your daily, monthly, and annual parking spend, with an optional event-day multiplier for premium zones.
How it works
You choose a neighborhood tier (each carries an hourly rate and a monthly garage rate) and a parking style:
hourly mode:
daily = hourly_rate * hours_per_day * event_multiplier
monthly = daily * days_per_month
annual = monthly * 12
monthly-pass mode:
monthly = tier_monthly_rate
daily = monthly / days_per_month
annual = monthly * 12
The event multiplier raises the effective rate for the share of premium-priced days (game days, conventions) you expect. Comparing hourly versus monthly across your real usage usually shows the monthly pass wins above roughly 10 to 12 parking days a month.
Tips and notes
Downtown and Gaslamp carry the highest rates and the steepest event surcharges; outer neighborhoods are far cheaper. Look for early-bird garage specials and employer validation, which can cut the effective rate well below the tier median. These figures are planning estimates, not live quotes.
