Stock your treasure chests in seconds. Pick a tier matched to the encounter’s challenge rating and roll a hoard of gold, gems, and magic items — each item’s rarity weighted toward what that tier should produce, from common potions at low tiers to legendary artifacts in a dragon’s hoard. Built for game masters who need loot on the fly.
How it works
You choose one of four tiers aligned with D&D 5e challenge-rating bands. For that tier the generator rolls three things using the browser’s Web Crypto API with modulo bias removed for a fair spread:
- Gold — a random amount within the tier’s range
- Gems — a count and per-gem value scaled to the tier
- Magic items — drawn from a curated list using a rarity weighting for that tier, so minor tiers favour common/uncommon items and the hoard tier skews toward rare, very rare, and legendary
Press Generate to roll a fresh hoard; reroll as many times as you like until it fits your table.
Tier breakdown
| Tier | CR band | Typical gold | Magic item rarities |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minor | 0–4 | Modest coin (tens to hundreds of gp) | Common, some Uncommon |
| Moderate | 5–10 | Mid amounts (hundreds to thousands) | Uncommon, occasional Rare |
| Major | 11–16 | Large sums (thousands to tens of thousands) | Rare, some Very Rare |
| Hoard | 17+ | Vast wealth (tens of thousands+) | Very Rare and Legendary |
The gem values also scale: minor tiers produce semi-precious stones worth 10–100 gp each, while a hoard tier can roll diamonds or rubies worth thousands per stone.
Using the output at the table
Match tier to encounter, not to player level. A CR 15 solo boss warrants a major hoard; four CR 5 guards do not. This keeps loot proportional to the threat rather than to arbitrary level thresholds.
Reroll freely. Because generation is instant and local, there is no cost to rolling until the result fits the fiction. A vampire’s lair probably should not contain a surfboard-shaped shield; reroll and keep going.
Narrative dressing. The raw output gives you the mechanical values — wrap them in flavour. Those three 1,000 gp emeralds might be the eyes of an idol, and the Cloak of Displacement might have sinister stitching that hints at its dark origin. The generator gives you what; your table gives it meaning.
Split the hoard. For group loot, divide total coin by party size and let players claim items by preference or die roll. The per-item values help when the party wants to sell rather than keep.
All generation happens locally in your browser using a cryptographically random source; nothing is uploaded.
