Planning a drive? Enter your distance, your car’s fuel economy, and the fuel price, and this calculator estimates the total fuel cost of the journey — then splits it evenly between everyone in the car. It is perfect for budgeting a road trip and settling up with friends.
How it works
The calculation depends on the unit system you pick:
- Metric: litres used = distance (km) ÷ 100 × (L/100km). Total cost = litres × price per litre.
- Imperial: gallons used = distance (miles) ÷ MPG. Total cost = gallons × price per gallon.
The per-person split is then total cost ÷ number of people sharing. The tool estimates fuel only — tolls, parking, food, and wear-and-tear are not included, so add those separately for a full budget.
Example
A 600 km drive, economy 7 L/100km, fuel £1.50/litre, 3 people:
- Litres = 600 ÷ 100 × 7 = 42 L
- Total cost = 42 × 1.50 = £63.00
- Per person = 63 ÷ 3 = £21.00
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Distance | 600 km |
| Economy | 7 L/100km |
| Fuel used | 42 L |
| Total cost | £63.00 |
| Per person (3) | £21.00 |
