Difficulty is a rough guide to how common a word is. Easy words are everyday vocabulary like apple and run, medium words are less frequent like lantern and cultivate, and hard words are advanced or literary like ineffable and acquiesce.

Can I get only one part of speech?

Yes. Use the part-of-speech dropdown to limit the draw to nouns, verbs, adjectives, or adverbs, which is handy for grammar exercises or fitting words into a specific slot in a sentence or game.

Will I ever get the same word twice in one draw?

No. Within a single generation the tool samples without replacement, so every word in the list is distinct. Across separate draws words can repeat because each pass starts from the full filtered pool again.

What happens if no words match my filters?

If a combination has no matching words the tool shows a short message asking you to widen the filters, rather than returning an empty result. Loosening either the part of speech or the difficulty will fix it.

Does this need an internet connection?

No. The word lists are bundled into the page and the random selection runs in your browser, so the tool works offline once loaded and uploads nothing about the words you generate.
