Project Codename Generator (Gemstones)

Precious gemstone codenames for special releases

Gemstones make especially flexible codenames because they double as a value hierarchy: Diamond reads as premium, Topaz as solid mid-range, and rare stones like Tanzanite as something special and limited. This generator draws from a curated list of real gems, pairing each with a genuine property so the name carries meaning.

How it works

The tool holds a fixed list of gemstones tagged by tier — precious, semi-precious, and rare — each with a one-line fact. When you generate, it filters to your chosen tier, shuffles the pool with an unbiased Fisher–Yates pass, and returns your requested count. Codenames are unique within a batch.

Tips and notes

  • Use the tiers as a pricing or edition ladder: ship a Diamond flagship, a Sapphire standard, and a Topaz entry edition under one coherent theme.
  • Rare stones such as Alexandrite and Tanzanite suit limited or experimental releases where scarcity is part of the story.
  • Keep a retired-codename list so a multi-year scheme never reuses a stone and confuses your version history.
