Portugal Imposto sobre o Valor Acrescentado (IVA) Calculator 2025
Portugal charges Imposto sobre o Valor Acrescentado (IVA) at a standard rate of 23% on mainland Portugal as of 2025, with an intermediate rate of 13% and a reduced rate of 6% for certain goods. This calculator adds IVA to a net price or extracts it from a gross (tax-inclusive) price, showing the full net / tax / gross breakdown — handy for invoicing and pricing in euros.
How it works
The calculator works in two directions using the rate you set (23% by default):
Add tax: tax = net × (rate ÷ 100); gross = net + tax
Remove tax: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100); tax = gross − net
“Add” finds the IVA and gross from a net price; “Remove” works backwards from a gross price to recover the net amount and the IVA inside it.
Example
A 100 EUR net price at the standard 23% rate, Add tax mode:
- IVA: 100 × 0.23 = 23 EUR
- Gross: 100 + 23 = 123 EUR
Removing IVA from a 123 EUR gross: 123 ÷ 1.23 = 100 EUR net, 23 EUR IVA.
| Rate | Net 100 EUR → IVA | Gross |
|---|---|---|
| 23% (standard) | 23.00 | 123.00 |
| 13% (intermediate) | 13.00 | 113.00 |
| 6% (reduced) | 6.00 | 106.00 |
Standard rate 23% (mainland Portugal); intermediate rate 13% (wine, restaurants); reduced 6% (food, books, medicines). Madeira and Azores have lower rates. The tool runs entirely in your browser — no amounts or personal data are transmitted.
