Pace per kilometer
Your pace is how long it takes to cover one kilometer — the metric every runner, coach and race plan uses to gauge effort. This calculator takes a distance and a finish time and returns your pace per km, your pace per mile and your average speed in km/h, all at once. It is built for runners checking a training split, planning a target race time, or converting a treadmill speed into a familiar min/km figure.
How it works
The tool adds your hours, minutes and seconds into one total of seconds, then divides by the distance in kilometers:
pace (sec/km) = total seconds ÷ distance in km
pace (min/mile) = sec/km × 1.609344, shown as min:ss
speed (km/h) = distance ÷ total seconds × 3600
Pace per km is the time for a single kilometer. Multiplying by 1.609344 (the
number of km in a mile) converts it to pace per mile. Speed is distance over time
scaled up to one hour. Pace seconds are formatted as min:ss with the seconds
rounded.
Example
You run 10 km in 50 minutes (0 h 50 m 0 s = 3000 seconds):
- Pace per km: 3000 ÷ 10 = 300 sec/km = 5:00 / km
- Pace per mile: 300 × 1.609344 ≈ 483 sec = 8:03 / mile
- Speed: 10 ÷ 3000 × 3600 = 12.00 km/h
| Distance | Time | Pace/km | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 km | 25:00 | 5:00 | 12.00 km/h |
| 10 km | 50:00 | 5:00 | 12.00 km/h |
| 21.0975 km | 1:45:00 | 4:58 | 12.06 km/h |
