Halflings live for comfort, good food, and good company, and their names should feel just as warm. This generator pairs homely given names with food-and-home-themed surnames, with options for gentle alliteration and a cozy nickname.
How it works
The tool keeps gendered pools of soft given names, a shared pool of surnames built around food, plants, and hearth (Butterbough, Greenbottle, Proudfoot), and a list of affectionate nicknames. When you generate, it shuffles each pool with an unbiased Fisher-Yates pass. If alliteration is on, it prefers a surname sharing the given name’s first letter when one exists, then optionally inserts a nickname to give results like Poppy "Pip" Proudfoot.
Tips and example
- A friendly innkeeper reads well alliterative: Bramble Butterbough.
- A traveling cousin suits a nickname: Milo “Tansy” Greenbottle.
- Regenerate a few times and pair a given name you like with a different surname to populate a whole village.
