Norway charges MVA (Merverdiavgift), its value-added tax, at a standard rate of 25% as of 2025, with reduced rates of 15% and 12% on certain goods and services. This calculator adds MVA to a net price or extracts it from a tax-inclusive (gross) price, instantly and entirely in your browser.
How it works
The calculator works in two modes from the rate you set (default 25%):
- Add tax — the amount is net, tax = net × (rate ÷ 100), and gross = net + tax.
- Remove tax — the amount is gross (tax-inclusive), so net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and the tax is the difference.
For reduced-rate goods, set the rate to 15 (food) or 12 (transport, hotels, cinema).
Example
On a net price of 1,000 NOK at the standard 25% rate:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Net | 1,000.00 NOK |
| MVA (25%) | 250.00 NOK |
| Gross | 1,250.00 NOK |
Working backwards from a 1,250 NOK gross price in Remove mode: 1,250 ÷ 1.25 = 1,000 NOK net, leaving 250 NOK of MVA.
| Rate | Applies to |
|---|---|
| 25% (standard) | Most goods and services |
| 15% (reduced) | Food and drink |
| 12% (reduced) | Transport, hotel accommodation, cinema |
Norway is not in the EU but charges 25% VAT. The tool runs entirely in your browser — no amounts or personal data are transmitted.
