The Netherlands charges BTW (Belasting over de Toegevoegde Waarde), the Dutch value-added tax, at a standard rate of 21% as of 2025, with a reduced 9% rate on essentials. This calculator adds BTW to a net price or extracts it from a tax-inclusive (gross) price, instantly and entirely in your browser.
How it works
The calculator works in two modes from the rate you set (default 21%):
- Add tax — the amount is treated as net, and tax = net × (rate ÷ 100). Gross = net + tax.
- Remove tax — the amount is treated as gross (tax-inclusive), and net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). The tax is the difference, gross − net.
For reduced-rate goods, change the rate field to 9 and the same formulas apply.
Example
On a net price of €100 at the standard 21% rate:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Net | €100.00 |
| BTW (21%) | €21.00 |
| Gross | €121.00 |
To work backwards from a €121.00 gross price in Remove mode: €121 ÷ 1.21 = €100.00 net, leaving €21.00 of BTW.
| Rate | Applies to |
|---|---|
| 21% (standard) | Most goods and services |
| 9% (reduced) | Food, medicines, books, some services |
The tool runs entirely in your browser — no amounts or personal data are transmitted to any server.
