The NATO phonetic alphabet, formally the ICAO spelling alphabet, replaces each letter with a distinct code word — Alfa, Bravo, Charlie — so letters that sound alike over a phone or radio cannot be confused. This converter turns any text you type into its full phonetic spelling instantly, in your browser.
How it works
The tool reads your input one character at a time and looks each one up in the official ICAO/NATO table. Letters become their code word (case is ignored, so both a and A give Alfa), and digits 0-9 become their standard number words Zero through Nine. A space is shown as (space), and any character with no code word — such as punctuation — is wrapped in quotes so nothing is silently dropped. The result is joined with spaces and can be copied with one click.
Example
Typing Gera-42 produces:
| Character | Code word |
|---|---|
| G | Golf |
| e | Echo |
| r | Romeo |
| a | Alfa |
| - | "-" |
| 4 | Four |
| 2 | Two |
So the full spelling is: Golf Echo Romeo Alfa ”-” Four Two.
This is handy for phone support, radio comms, dictating passwords, or confirming a booking reference. Everything happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
