Check your Minneapolis pay and overtime

Minneapolis maintains its own minimum wage above the Minnesota statewide rate, and overtime kicks in once you pass 40 hours in a week. This calculator confirms whether your hourly rate meets the local floor, computes time-and-a-half overtime, and projects your weekly and annual gross pay.

How it works

Hours up to 40 per week are paid at your regular rate. Any hours beyond 40 are paid at 1.5 times that rate, as required by federal and Minnesota labor law. The tool also compares your rate against the Minneapolis large-employer minimum of 15.57 dollars per hour.

regularHours  = min(hours, 40)
overtimeHours = max(hours - 40, 0)
regularPay    = regularHours * rate
overtimePay   = overtimeHours * rate * 1.5
weeklyGross   = regularPay + overtimePay
annualGross   = weeklyGross * 52

Because Minnesota does not allow a tip credit, tipped workers must still be paid the full minimum wage as their base, with tips on top.

Tips and example

At the 15.57 dollar minimum, a 40-hour week earns 622.80 dollars. Work 48 hours and the extra 8 hours pay 23.36 dollars each (time-and-a-half), adding 186.84 dollars for a 809.64 dollar week. Over a full year of 48-hour weeks that is about 42,100 dollars gross. If you enter a rate below 15.57 dollars, the tool warns that it falls under the Minneapolis large-employer minimum.
