This free mass converter changes micrograms (µg, also written mcg) into milligrams (mg) and back again, updating live as you type. It is commonly used to read supplement and medication labels, where doses may be quoted in either unit.
How it works
The relationship between the two metric mass units is exact: 1 mg = 1000 µg. The conversion is therefore a simple power-of-ten shift:
- mg = µg ÷ 1000
- µg = mg × 1000
The relationship is linear, so the converter is bidirectional — edit either field and the other updates instantly. Note that “mcg” is just another way to write “µg”.
Example
A vitamin D supplement is labelled 2000 µg and you want the milligram figure.
2000 ÷ 1000 = 2 mg.
| Micrograms (µg) | Milligrams (mg) |
|---|---|
| 100 µg | 0.1 mg |
| 400 µg | 0.4 mg |
| 500 µg | 0.5 mg |
| 1000 µg | 1 mg |
| 2500 µg | 2.5 mg |
