Miami minimum wage and overtime, explained
Miami uses Florida’s statewide minimum wage of $13.00 per hour. This calculator turns your hourly rate and weekly hours into gross pay, automatically applying federal overtime rules — time-and-a-half for any hours beyond 40 in a workweek. For tipped roles it also applies Florida’s tip credit so you can confirm your cash wage plus tips reaches the full minimum.
How it works
Pay splits into regular and overtime portions based on the 40-hour threshold:
regular_hours = min(hours, 40)
overtime_hours = max(hours - 40, 0)
regular_pay = regular_hours * rate
overtime_pay = overtime_hours * rate * 1.5
gross = regular_pay + overtime_pay
For tipped workers, Florida permits a tip credit of $3.02, so the minimum direct cash wage is 13.00 - 3.02 = 9.98 per hour. Tips must bring total hourly earnings to at least the full $13.00:
effective_hourly = cash_wage + (tips / hours)
shortfall if effective_hourly < 13.00
Tips and example
A worker at 13.00 per hour who works 45 hours has 40 regular hours (520.00) plus 5 overtime hours at 19.50 each (97.50), for 617.50 gross. A tipped server earning the 9.98 cash wage must collect enough tips to clear $13.00 per hour; if they earn 9.98 cash plus tips averaging only 2.00 per hour, the employer owes the 1.02 per hour shortfall to reach the legal minimum.
