Malaysia’s Sales and Services Tax (SST) replaced GST in September 2018. Service Tax is charged at a standard 8% as of 2025 (raised from 6% on 1 March 2024, with telecommunications and food & beverage staying at 6%), while Sales Tax on goods is 5% or 10%. This calculator lets businesses, freelancers and shoppers add SST to a net price or strip it out of a tax-inclusive total in one step.
How it works
Enter an amount and pick a mode:
- Add tax — your amount is the net price. The tax is
net × rate ÷ 100and the gross isnet + tax. At 8%, gross =net × 1.08. - Remove tax — your amount is the gross (tax-inclusive) price. The net is
gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), so at 8% net =gross ÷ 1.08, and the tax is the difference.
The rate field defaults to 8% but you can override it — for example 6% for telco/F&B services, or 5%/10% for goods Sales Tax.
Example
A consultancy invoice is RM 2,000 net. In Add tax mode at 8%:
tax = 2000 × 0.08 = RM 160, gross = RM 2,160. To go the other way, entering
RM 2,160 in Remove tax mode returns net 2160 ÷ 1.08 = RM 2,000 and tax RM 160.
