Maine ties its minimum wage to the cost of living through annual CPI indexing, making it one of the most consistently updated state floors in the country. This calculator shows your gross weekly, monthly and annual pay at any hourly wage — defaulting to the current Maine minimum of $14.65/hr — including overtime at 1.5x for hours above 40 per week, and a side-by-side comparison to the federal $7.25/hr floor.

How it works

Enter your hourly wage and hours per week. The calculator splits your weekly hours into two bands:

  • Regular time — up to 40 hours, paid at your entered rate.
  • Overtime — any hours above 40, paid at 1.5x the entered rate (the FLSA overtime premium).

Weekly gross is the sum of both bands. Monthly gross uses the 52-week year convention (weekly x 52 / 12) so the figure represents an average month rather than a calendar month with a varying number of paydays. Annual gross is simply weekly x 52.

The federal comparison table replicates the same calculation at $7.25/hr, then shows the dollar premium Maine workers receive from the higher state rate. For a standard 40-hour week, Maine’s $14.65/hr rate produces $296.00 more per week — or $15,392.00 more per year — than the federal minimum wage.

Worked example

A full-time worker in Portland, Maine earning the state minimum works 45 hours in a week.

ComponentHoursRateAmount
Regular pay40$14.65/hr$586.00
Overtime pay5$21.98/hr$109.88
Weekly gross45$695.88
Monthly gross (avg)$3,015.48
Annual gross$36,185.76

At the federal rate of $7.25/hr the same 45-hour week would yield only $344.38. Maine’s $14.65/hr rate produces $351.50 more in a single week, or over $18,278 more per year.

Maine minimum wage history

Maine has raised its minimum wage every year since CPI indexing took effect, building on a series of legislated increases passed in 2016 that began phasing in from 2017:

YearMaine minimum wage
2022$12.75/hr
2023$13.80/hr
2024$14.15/hr
2025$14.65/hr

The federal minimum wage has not changed since 2009, widening the gap with Maine each year. Maine’s 2025 rate of $14.65/hr is more than twice the federal $7.25/hr.
