Parking is one of the largest hidden costs of living and working in Los Angeles, and it varies enormously by neighborhood. This estimator combines district median rates with your own parking pattern to show what you will realistically spend per day, month, and year.
How it works
The tool prices two strategies and picks the cheaper one:
hourly cost / month = street rate × hours/day × days/week × 4.33
monthly pass cost = neighborhood median monthly garage rate
event cost / month = base hourly rate × event multiplier × event sessions
chosen monthly = min(hourly cost, monthly pass) + event cost
annual = chosen monthly × 12
The factor 4.33 converts a weekly pattern into an average month (52 weeks ÷ 12).
Each neighborhood carries its own median garage rate and street rate, so Downtown
and Santa Monica come out far above the San Fernando Valley.
Example and tips
A Downtown LA worker parking five days a week for nine hours a day will almost always save money with a monthly garage pass (around 250 dollars) versus paying street or lot rates daily. If you only park two or three days a week, skip the pass and pay hourly. Add event sessions if you regularly attend games or concerts near major venues, where the multiplier can double or triple the base rate.
