This calculator shows your true Los Angeles hotel bill after occupancy taxes. LA charges a 14% Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) on the room rate, and tourism district assessments add roughly 1.5%, for a combined ~15.5%. Enter your rate and nights to see exactly what you will pay.

How it works

The tax applies to the room subtotal:

Room subtotal = Nightly rate x Nights Occupancy tax = Room subtotal x 0.155 Grand total = Room subtotal + Occupancy tax

The 15.5% combined figure breaks into the 14% city TOT and about 1.5% in tourism marketing assessments. The exact assessment varies by property and district, so the rate field is editable.

Example

A $200/night room booked for 3 nights:

  • Room subtotal: $200 x 3 = $600.00
  • Occupancy tax (15.5%): $600 x 0.155 = $93.00
  • Grand total: $693.00

Notes

The occupancy tax applies only to stays under 30 days; longer stays may be exempt. Many LA hotels also charge a separate resort or facility fee ($25–$50/night) and parking, which are not part of the city tax — add those to your budget separately. Verify the exact TOT and assessments with your property; rates can differ slightly across LA-area cities.
