Kilometers to Meters Converter
This free length converter changes kilometers (km) into meters (m) and back again. Both are metric (SI) units of length: the metre is the SI base unit, and the kilometre is simply 1000 of them. The tool is handy for race distances, map scales and any figure quoted in the wrong unit.
How it works
Because both units are decimal multiples within the metric system, the relationship is exact: 1 km = 1000 m. To convert kilometers to meters it multiplies by 1000; to go the other way it divides by 1000. Both input fields are linked, so editing either one recomputes the other instantly.
Example
To convert 3.5 km to meters, multiply by 1000:
3.5 × 1000 = 3500 m
So a 3.5 km trail is 3500 metres long.
| Kilometers (km) | Meters (m) |
|---|---|
| 1 km | 1000 m |
| 5 km | 5000 m |
| 10 km | 10000 m |
| 42 km | 42000 m |
