Ireland Value Added Tax (VAT) Calculator 2025
Ireland charges Value Added Tax (VAT) at a standard rate of 23% as of 2025. This calculator helps Irish businesses, freelancers and shoppers add VAT to a net price or work out the VAT already inside a gross price.
How it works
The calculator works in two directions. In Add tax mode your figure is the
net (pre-tax) price: VAT = net × (rate / 100) and gross = net + VAT. In
Remove tax mode your figure is the gross (tax-inclusive) price:
net = gross / (1 + rate / 100), so the VAT is gross − net. The rate defaults
to 23% but you can set a reduced rate for certain goods and services.
| Rate | Applies to |
|---|---|
| 23% | Standard rate (most goods and services) |
| 13.5% | Construction, fuel, certain services |
| 9% | Hospitality and some printed media |
| 4.8% | Livestock (agriculture) |
Example
Adding 23% VAT to a €100 net price:
- VAT = 100 × 0.23 = €23.00
- Gross = 100 + 23 = €123.00
In Remove mode, a €123 gross price divides by 1.23 to recover the €100.00 net price and €23.00 of VAT.
