How it works
When you drop an image in, the tool reads its real pixel dimensions and rebuilds it on a canvas. The border thickness, corner radius and shadow blur are all expressed as a percentage of the image’s shorter side, so a frame looks identical whether the photo is a tiny avatar or a large print. A solid border fills the frame with one colour; a gradient border blends your two chosen colours along a line set by the angle slider.
Rounded corners are produced by clipping both the outer frame and the inner photo to a rounded-rectangle path, so the curve is genuinely cut into the image rather than faked with CSS. The drop shadow is painted by casting a frame-shaped silhouette through the canvas shadow API, which means the soft edge sits correctly under the rounded frame. A matte background colour fills the space around the shadow, or you can keep that area transparent. Finally an export scale lets you multiply the output resolution up to 3x for print or high-DPI screens.
Example
Suppose you have a 1200x800 product photo for a marketplace listing. Choose the Soft card preset: a thin white 3 percent border, generous 10 percent rounded corners, and a faint 20 percent drop shadow on a light grey matte. The photo now looks like a tidy app card instead of a raw upload. Switch to the Sunset gradient preset and the same image gains a warm orange-to-red border with a transparent background, perfect for dropping onto a coloured slide. Bump the export scale to 2x and you get a sharp 2x-resolution PNG ready for a retina display — all without sending the picture anywhere.
