How do the difficulty levels differ?

Easy picks short, everyday 5 to 6 letter words like apple or house. Medium uses longer common words such as journey or compass. Hard favours words with rare letters like J, Q, X and Z (xylophone, quagmire, fjord) that are much harder to guess.

Can I get a fresh word without changing difficulty?

Yes. The New word button picks another random word from the same difficulty bank without revealing the previous answer.

How many words are in each bank?

Each difficulty has roughly 20 to 24 curated words, picked at random, so repeats are uncommon over a normal game session.

Why use a word picker instead of choosing my own word?

It keeps the game fair — the host genuinely does not pick favourites, and no one has to step out of the room. It also speeds up rounds with younger players who run out of word ideas.

How many wrong guesses does hangman allow?

Traditionally six — the head, body, two arms and two legs of the stick figure. Some variants add the face for up to ten. This tool just supplies the word; you draw the figure however you play.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. Words come from a built-in bank and the picker runs entirely in your browser, so it works offline.

Get a fair secret word for a game of hangman without anyone having to think one up or accidentally pick something too easy. Choose easy, medium or hard, and the host sees a hidden word plus a blank line with the right number of letters for players to guess one letter at a time.

How it works

Each difficulty maps to a curated bank of words. When you choose a level or press New word, the tool picks one entry at random from that bank and displays it as underscores — one blank per letter — so guessers know the length without seeing the answer. Easy holds short, everyday 5 to 6 letter words; medium holds longer but common words; hard is stocked with words rich in low-frequency letters (J, Q, X, Z) that resist letter-frequency guessing. Reveal toggles the real word for the end of the round.

A guesser tries common letters first. Guessing E, A, R, S reveals little, because the hidden word is xylophone — its only repeated common letter is O, so the figure usually fills in before the word does. Press reveal to confirm, then hit New word for the next round.
