Fraction to decimal converter
Decimals are easier to compare, add up on a calculator, or enter into a spreadsheet than fractions — which is why measurements, test scores and recipe amounts often need converting. This tool turns any fraction — proper (3/8), improper (11/4) or mixed (2 3/4) — into its exact decimal value, and shows the simplified fraction too.
How it works
A fraction is just a division, so the converter divides the numerator by the denominator. For a mixed number it converts the fractional part the same way and adds the whole-number part on top. If the fraction can be reduced, it also shows the simplified form (found via the greatest common divisor). The result is exact where the decimal terminates, and rounded for repeating decimals such as 1/3.
Example
Convert 2 3/4 (a mixed number): the fractional part 3/4 = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75, then add the whole part: 2 + 0.75 = 2.75. Convert the improper fraction 11/4: 11 ÷ 4 = 2.75 — the same value, since 11/4 equals 2 3/4.
| Fraction | Decimal |

| 1/2 | 0.5 |
| 3/8 | 0.375 |
| 11/4 | 2.75 |
| 1/3 | 0.333… |
| 7/8 | 0.875 |
