ElevenLabs cost calculator
ElevenLabs prices voice generation by the character, not the minute, and bundles a monthly pool of character credits into each plan. That makes the math simple but easy to underestimate: a single 1,000-word script is already around 6,000 characters. This calculator converts your word or character count into credit usage and shows which plan tier fits your volume.
How it works
The core conversion is:
characters = words × 6 (≈ chars per English word incl. spaces)
monthly_credits = characters × quantity
Each plan includes a fixed monthly allowance. The calculator compares your monthly credit need against every tier and highlights the cheapest plan that covers it, plus how many credits you would have left over (or be short).
Tips for keeping voice costs down
- Trim before you generate. Tighten the script first — every removed sentence is credits saved, since you pay per character regardless of audio.
- Cache fixed segments. Intros, outros, and disclaimers that never change should be generated once and reused, not regenerated each episode.
- Right-size the plan. Paying for Pro when you use a fraction of Creator wastes money; paying overage on Starter every month is the signal to upgrade.
- Watch SSML overhead. Markup tags count toward characters on some setups — keep SSML lean when volume is high.
