When you write an Indian cheque you must spell out the amount in words on the words line, in addition to the figures box. This tool converts any rupees-and-paise figure into the exact wording an Indian bank expects — prefixed with “Rupees”, grouped in the lakh/crore system, and ending with “Only”. It is built for anyone filling out cheques, demand drafts or financial paperwork.
How it works
The integer part is converted using the Indian numbering system, which groups by thousand, lakh (1,00,000), crore (1,00,00,000), arab and kharab rather than the Western thousands/millions. The minor unit is paise (1 rupee = 100 paise), converted separately. The result is title-cased, prefixed with “Rupees”, joined with “and” before the paise, and terminated with “Only” so no extra words can be added after the amount.
Example
Enter 125000.50:
Rupees One Lakh Twenty-Five Thousand And Fifty Paise Only
| Figures | Words |
|---|---|
| 5,000 | Rupees Five Thousand Only |
| 1,25,000.50 | Rupees One Lakh Twenty-Five Thousand And Fifty Paise Only |
| 1,00,00,000 | Rupees One Crore Only |
It is privacy-first: nothing leaves your browser. Always check the words against the numeric box before signing — you are responsible for what you write on a cheque.
