Belgium VAT (BTW/TVA) Calculator 2025
Belgium charges value-added tax — called BTW (Belasting over de Toegevoegde Waarde) in Dutch and TVA (Taxe sur la Valeur Ajoutée) in French — at a standard rate of 21% as of 2025. Reduced rates of 12% and 6% apply to specific goods and services. This calculator adds or removes that tax and shows the full breakdown.
How it works
In Add tax mode the amount you enter is treated as the net (pre-tax) price:
tax = net × (rate ÷ 100), and gross = net + tax
In Remove tax mode the amount is treated as the gross (tax-inclusive) price and the net is extracted:
net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and tax = gross − net
The rate defaults to 21% but you can override it to 12% or 6% for reduced-rate items.
Example
Adding 21% to a €100 net price:
tax = €100 × 0.21 = €21.00, gross = €121.00
Removing 21% from a €121 gross price:
net = €121 ÷ 1.21 = €100.00, tax = €21.00
| Rate | Applies to |
|---|---|
| 21% | Standard rate (most goods and services) |
| 12% | Margarine, tyres, certain phytopharmaceuticals |
| 6% | Food, water, books, pharmaceuticals, social housing |
