Baby Name Generator (Greek)

Classical Greek names with mythological roots

Ad placeholder (leaderboard)

Greek names carry the weight of myth, philosophy, and faith across nearly three thousand years. This tool draws on genuine Greek naming traditions — from the heroes of Homer to the saints of the Orthodox calendar — and pairs every name with its literal meaning.

How it works

Each name is tagged by gender and stored with its meaning and origin. When you choose a gender and generate, the tool filters to matching names, shuffles them with an unbiased Fisher–Yates pass, and shows your requested count. Greek names are typically transparent in meaning because they were built from descriptive roots: Sophia is literally “wisdom”, Theodora is “gift of God”, and Alexander is “defender of men”.

Tips and notes

  • Classical mythology names — Penelope, Cassandra, Jason — carry strong stories worth reading before you commit.
  • Many Greek names have widely-used English forms: Georgios as George, Eleni as Helen, Stephanos as Stephen.
  • Test the name with your surname and say it aloud; Greek stress often falls on a different syllable than the English equivalent.
