Austria charges Umsatzsteuer (USt), also called Mehrwertsteuer (MwSt), at a standard rate of 20% as of 2025, with reduced rates of 13% and 10% for certain goods and services. This calculator adds USt to a net price or extracts the USt contained in a gross (tax-inclusive) price, giving you the full net / tax / gross breakdown. It is built for Austrian businesses, freelancers and shoppers.
How it works
Pick the applicable rate (default 20%) and a direction:
- Add tax: gross = net × (1 + rate). The tax is net × rate.
- Remove tax: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate). The included tax is gross − net.
For reduced-rate items, change the rate field to 13% or 10% before calculating.
Example
Add 20% USt to a €100 net price:
- USt = 100 × 0.20 = €20.00
- Gross = €120.00
To remove USt from a €120 gross price: 120 ÷ 1.20 = €100.00 net, with €20.00 USt included.
| Rate | Net | USt | Gross |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20% (standard) | €100.00 | €20.00 | €120.00 |
| 13% (intermediate) | €100.00 | €13.00 | €113.00 |
| 10% (reduced) | €100.00 | €10.00 | €110.00 |
Standard rate 20%; intermediate rate 13% (cultural events, plants, wine); reduced 10% (food, books, housing, passenger transport, medicines). The tool runs entirely in your browser — no amounts or personal data are transmitted.
